Management of Visual Impairment

The management of low vision is an important part of optometric practice: it is important that optometrists are able to give sound advice to patients on how to make the most of their vision. This CD-ROM will address the multi-agency approach contained in the low vision eyecare pathway, and will give practical advise on the assessment and management of the low vision patient.

The first level objectives of the programme are to:
  • Remind viewers of relevant risk factors
  • Ensure viewers understand and recognise psychological and emotional issues related to the identification and diagnosis of visual handicap
  • Remind viewers of the new arrangements for registration
  • Outline clinical strategies to manage visual impairment
  • Outline lifestyle issues and their management, emphasising the contribution optometrists can make
This lecture is given by Jane Macnaughton, an optometrist who has worked extensively in the Hospital Eye Service and in both multiple and independent practice.
