Full Synopsis

Communication skills are a vital part of your clinical practice.  "The Workshop: Communication Skills" is a filmed workshop using skilled actors with an audience of real optometrists.  It aims to introduce different aspects of clinical communication and demonstrate how developing your knowledge and skills in communicating effectively wiht your patients is a vital part of running a successful, effective and safe optometric practice. 

The Workshop film includes and introduction and 5 scenarios

• Communication Skills
• Patient-centred Care
• Understanding Patient Concerns and Anxieties
• Handling Patient Complaints
• Adherence to Eyecare Recommendations

Each dramatised scenario is discussed in turn by the audience of optometrists. The film content is backed up with a series of 5 accompanying fact sheets.

Learning Objectives

• To give optometrists a clear idea of what constitutes effective communication in their practice
• To generate understanding of why it is important for optometrists to practise and promote effective communciations with their patients
• To improve optometrists communication skills when examining and advising patients, and dealing with patient concerns and complaints
