Full Synopsis

Management of Binocular Vision

This film combines interactive technology with comprehensive and up-to-date information and instruction in the diagnosis and treatment of binocular vision abnormalities.

The film's content is focused on two key areas:

Investigative Techniques - this section includes instruction in the various techniques required to:

  • identify and quantify heterophoria
  • identify and quantify concomitant heterotropia
  • identify amblyopia
  • identify and quantify incomitant heterotropia
  • identify and quantify abnormalities in the accommodation/convergence system

Optometric management - this section provides guidance on the role of the optometrist in the management of binocular vision abnormalities including:

  • the management of heterophoria
  • the management of concomitant deviations
  • simple vision training eg. convergence and fusional reserve exercises
  • deviations requiring surgery
  • teh management of incomitant deviations
  • referral criteria
  • first aid measures
  • passive and active amblyopia treatment
  • referral criteria
  • the management of refractive deviations

Learning Objectives

  • To give the viewer clear information on the identification and management of binocular vision problems
  • To provide detailed demonstrations of investigative techniques including "what the optometrist should see"
  • To demonstrate a representative sample of binocular vision defects
  • To advise on good referral practice
